Queen Victoria Village is generally known as QV Village or just QV and covers the city block of Lonsdale, Little Lonsdale, Swanston and Russell streets. Within this block lies a large shopping centre, a plaza, underground food court, a large supermarket, apartment buildings and the headquarters of a major resources company.
Originally the site for Queen Victoria women’s hospital, the site has suffered several failed ventures including a craft market, minigolf course, skateboard park and carpark. Eventually, developers bulldozed the lot, dug a giant hole and erected the new shopping district. Sometimes, Eleanor Jackson misses that hole.
