Steve Smart is a young Melbourne writer, performance poet MC and festival organiser. He was a founding Director of the Overload Poetry Festival, one of Australia’s leading poetry festivals which is now in its tenth year of bringing an explosive mix of spoken word and performance poetry to Melbourne. In addition to his work with Overload, Steve has appeared in print, on stage and television, on the stage at the Opera House, in the Sunday Herald Sun and on 774 ABC Melbourne. He has been featured as an ABC Noise artist and his spoken word album Ain’t That a Kick in the Head was featured on Triple J unearthed. A regular facilitator of poetry workshops, Steve Smart is as Melbourne as black overcoats; Nick Cave; coffee on Lygon St; the 86 tram; waiting under the clocks on the steps of Flinders St Station; poetry on Saturday afternoons at The Dan; and not giving a stuff about the Grand Prix.
